The Presbyterian Church in Canada
Through our national church, we are engaged in a range of mission and ministry projects and programs around the world as well as across Canada. Canadian Presbyterians are serving in as diverse ministries as Bible translation in Taiwan, seminary teaching in Romania, medical ministries in Pakistan and Kenya as well as more traditional parish based ministries in Malawi and Taiwan. Mission happens within Canada as well. From university and military chaplaincies to francophone and first nations ministries, from inner city ministry to support for rural and remote congregations, from working with refugees to the planting of new congregations, mission happens, and St. Andrew’s, through its givings to Presbyterians Sharing… is part of that exciting mission adventure. Presbyterian World Service and Developmentis our church’s emergency relief and development agency
The work of PWS&D includes
- Responding to emergency situations after disaster and conflict
- Long-term community development with international partners working in agriculture and livestock, education, health, HIV and AIDS, human rights, small business, clean water and sanitation
- Refugee sponsorship by Canadian congregations.
PWS&D works with churches and organizations seeking to transform their communities by promoting justice, peace and the integrity of creation. PWS&D supports people and communities in Africa, Asia, Central America and Eastern Europe according to their need and regardless of their faith.
St. Andrew’s rejoices in the opportunities God has given us over the years to partner with a wide variety of organizations involved in mission around the world. Some of these include:
Since 1949 God has used GEM to transform the lives of thousands in Europe by training Europeans to reach Europe.
GEM is working to ignite discipleship movements in 50 cities over the next five years (50 in 5) by reproducing disciples of Jesus who make other disciples. To that end, GEM partnered in 2011 with two trainers who had helped spark a movement in South East Asia that grew to more than a million believers in less than a decade. Hundreds of GEM’s field workers, European co-workers, and North American church partners have been trained in a seamless Biblical framework to initiate effective evangelism and discipleship. We call this discipleship multiplication training or DMT.
Maureen and Wes Blackmon of our congregation have been working with GEM in Latvia. While they have since returned to Canada, Maureen has been seconded to Entrust Ministries, where she is providing leadership and support with women’s ministries.
Overseas Mission Fellowship
OMF is a global network of Christians proclaiming the glory of Jesus Christ among East Asia’s peoples through fervent prayer, loving service and personal witness. Through God’s grace and power we work to see a biblical church movement in each people group of East Asia.
David and Ruth Ullstrom receive support from St. Andrew’s for their ministry in Taiwan.
Our relationships with national churches provide meaningful opportunities for partnership in long-term and short-term outreach activities.
